Larry Singer
Larry Singer is one of the leading acting teachers of his generation. It is with 20 years of teaching experience that Larry established the Larry Singer Studios in 2006, where he continues the rich traditions of Actors' Training, while exploring new methods to support every actor's endeavor to prosper as an artist.
Larry teaches classes in Acting Technique & Scene Study for working actors and those committed to pursuing professional careers. Along with conducting his three professional studio classes, Larry is currently a faculty member of the MFA School of the Arts Theatre Program at Columbia University (since 2002). Larry has taught and/or directed at New York University (1992-96, 2007) as part of CAP 21, of which he was a founding board member, AADA (1988-91), AMDA (1990-95) and at The Michael Howard Studios (1989-2006), where he served as Associate Director. There, in addition to being the core acting teacher for the Conservatories, he also served as the first Summer Conservatory Director, growing program enrollment from 11 to 48 students, and launched a One-Year Conservatory program designed to develop the actor's artistic process as well as provide career training. Recently, Larry has accepted an invitation as a guest teacher at Muhlenberg College (2008 winter semester) and has been invited to teach at the Great Plains Theatre Conference. Other teaching invitations have brought him to Japan and Canada.
Additionally, Larry works as a coach in theatre and for film and television, and is frequently hired by actors to prepare for auditions. He has worked with such rising young stars as Kerry Washington, Anson Mount, Teresa Palmer and Hayden Christiansen. He has also directed many productions for various conservatories, staging plays by Shakespeare, Odets, Shaw, Inge, Shanley and Shepard, as well as original works. As an actor, Larry made his Broadway debut in the comedy GEMINI and worked Off-Broadway as the lead in ANDORA, by Max Frisch. He also worked in various roles at Ensemble Studio Theatre and Circle Rep Lab, as well as in regional theatres, on commercials and television, and in film. In 2006 Larry was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to peace through culture and education.
Susan Main
Susan is an actress and Designated Linklater Voice Teacher. She has
taught voice and/or movement on the faculties of the Actor's Studio at
Pace University, the Linklater Center for Voice and Language, NYU Cap
21, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston
Conservatory and Southwick Studios. She has taught workshops and served
as a voice and movement coach for theatre companies in Italy and
Portugal. In 2005, she served as script supervisor/assistant director
on the documentary Vox Erotica,
filmed in Stromboli, Italy and featuring Kristin Linklater. Susan holds
an MFA in Theatre Education specializing in voice and movement from
Boston University, and is currently training to certify as a teacher of
the Alexander Technique with John Nicholls.
Tracy Bersley
Tracy
Bersley received her MFA in directing from Syracuse University,
focusing on international and cultural influences on an
interdisciplinary theatre. She has adapted and directed several stories
including: The House on Mango Street, by Latina writer, Sandra Cisneros; Tibet: Through the Red Box, first presented in conjunction with the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab; lamb of gods, at the 2000 New York Fringe Festival; 5. Wash Your Bowl for Teatro de la Culebra; The Awful Rowing, created from poems by Anne Sexton for the Ontological Theatre’s 2002 Blueprint Series; The Anatomy of Touch, also at the Ontological Theatre; Rappaccini’s Daughter (Octopus Ensemble/Chashama NYC/Jim Henson Foundation’s Festival). Other plays include Charles Mee’s Trojan W omen: A Love Story (Michael Howard Conservatory), This Is Not a Pipe Dream (The Vineyard Theatre), and a reverse gender production of Macbeth at Syracuse Stage. Tracy directed a remount of Daniel Fish’s Twelfth Night at the Juilliard School, Blood Wedding and Hair for NYU, as well as Alice in Wonderland, The Green Bird, Looking for Tibet, and Measure for Measure at Purchase Repertory and The Bacchae for the Loft Theatre.
Tracy
completed a directing residency for the 1999-2000 season at McCarter
Theatre collaborating with such artists as Sam Shepard, David Mamet and
Emily Mann, where she later ran the conservatory theatre program.
Tracy also served as a cast yoga/movement consultant for two Broadway
shows, Anna in the Tropics (Royal Theatre) & Albee’s All Over (Round About Theatre), and Assistant Directed Speaking in Tongues
(Round About Theatre). She teaches acting, movement and dramatic
writing at SUNY Purchase and Princeton University and is a Drama League
Fellow. Her most recent choreographic/movement work can be seen at Juilliard this Spring in the productions of Twelfth Night (dir: Jesse Berger) and Winter's Tale (dir: Harris Yulin) and at P.S. 122 in a production of St. Joan of the Stockyards (dir: Lear deBessonet).
